StarCity Hotel Alor Setar

The location is great, close to food and shops, and Aman Central is within walking distance. I was here for work, and the hotel was simple but did the job. The room had the basics, including an iron and board, which was nice, but there was no toothbrush. There’s no gym or spa. I didn’t check whether there was a pool.

Parking was easy and plentiful, and the hotel is right by Aman Central mall with lots of food outlets nearby. The breakfast was tasty, with a good range of local and standard choices. I found the room spacious, clean, and well organized, with what I needed for work and relaxing, including a comfortable desk and handy power points. There was also ample room for prayer, a feature I especially appreciated. For the price, the comfort and practical setup are great value. I’d recommend it to business travellers, Muslim travellers, or anyone wanting a comfortable and functional place to stay, with a convenient location for meals and exploring the city.

The room was comfortable for our family of five, with three children. We came from Kuala Lumpur for two nights at StarCity Hotel because we had family and friends’ events in Alor Setar. It was clean and spacious, the air conditioning worked well and was cold, and the bed and pillows were good. We enjoyed seeing Alor Setar Tower from our room. On the second day, housekeeping made the bed, cleared the rubbish, and changed the towels while we were out. Amenities were generally fine, and a prayer mat was provided. There were some gaps: we got only one coffee sachet and one tea sachet, which wasn’t enough, and no toothbrushes or toothpaste. The TV had only basic channels. Staff were polite but not especially friendly, and seemed limited in number. Nobody helped us when we arrived, so we had to ask at the counter for a luggage trolley. The stay was comfortable overall, but service and amenities could be better.

The bed was so comfortable, it’s the main thing I’d highlight. This was our first time booking the hotel for a family visit during CNY. It’s a bit old, but generally clean, and the staff were fairly friendly. Definitely worth trying for a really good rest.
