The location is convenient, with stores, supermarkets, and restaurants right downstairs, but that doesn't make up for the lack of basic cleanliness. This was such a bad room that it felt like I was paying for some past sin. People say you get what you pay for, but this was unacceptable at any price. The pillow smelled unbelievably awful. Even the staff member who sniffed it could only apologize. I also suspect the sheets weren't changed between guests, and they left me feeling itchy. When I called reception, a replacement pillow took 30 minutes to arrive, while they responded to my Trip.com cancellation request in just 10 minutes and rejected it. That says a lot about their priorities. A few other problems: the toilet paper dissolved as soon as it touched liquid, and there was only a tiny tube each of body wash and shampoo, not enough for a proper shower if you hadn't brought your own. Shower pressure started as a drizzle and took a solid 1-2 minutes to become usable. There was a damp smell in both the room and corridors. The hotel has dehumidifiers around, but they weren't helping much.

It's a reasonably clean budget hotel, but you can clearly hear people talking in the next room because the sound insulation is poor. The washroom has an old fashioned layout, so it gets wet all over after a shower.

It's easy to stay in the area without driving anywhere: there are lots of restaurants, MR.DIY, Guardian, FamilyMart, and CBTL nearby. The hotel has a nice Urban Inn vibe and design, friendly staff who'll help if you ask, and a 24 hour reception. Parking is free for guests, just give the receptionist your plate number. There was plenty of parking, including basement spaces. I booked online four days before Christmas and still got a room. Prices are reasonable if you book early. I'd stay again if I return to Alor Setar.

The room was clean and comfortable, though on the small side and mine had no window. The toilet was clean too, and the staff were friendly and helpful. A nice stay overall.

A decent place for a one night stopover before continuing the trip. I wish the hotel had windows and better walls. It has a lot of potential as a hotel chain in Malaysia.
