Hard Rock Hotel Penang

The hotel and rooms were lovely, and the staff gave great service. But our room's AC filter was filthy, and my wife got sick. Reception wasn't helpful at first and refused to cover the medical bill, suggesting I take it up with an executive instead. I've never had to deal with a hotel executive before. Where's the common sense and staff empowerment? The executive handled it, moved us to another room, and covered the medical bill. We lost some of the enjoyment of our stay and didn't make full use of the amenities. Reception needs better training to deal with problems, especially when the hotel is at fault. Even so, I don't think this should put others off booking. Check-in was also painfully slow, over 30 minutes. Only two counters were operating when we arrived, while two other staff weren't checking anyone in. There was nowhere to sit, and the area wasn't air conditioned.

We came back to PARKROYAL Penang Resort for our anniversary after staying here before. Its peaceful, beautiful setting and beachfront location make for a relaxing stay with more privacy. We really appreciated the anniversary cake sent to our room. It was moist and delicious, and a lovely surprise that made the celebration more memorable. A couple of things need attention: the bathroom sink leaked and left the floor wet, and the shower drain seemed clogged. We hope management can sort these out to improve the guest experience.

I don't often give a full five stars, but this place earned it. We were welcomed with drinks, and our room was clean, bright, and in order. Housekeeping came every day. The gym equipment was all working, breakfast had a huge menu and everything was delicious, and the pool was clean with two slides. I honestly couldn't find a fault and hope to come back. The location is peaceful, away from Penang's hectic traffic but close enough to what you want on holiday: a relaxing atmosphere. It's right by batu ferringhi beach, so in the evening you can stroll along to the stalls and fire shows. The hotel is easy to spot, and parking is free.

The buffet breakfast that's included is good, and the on-site Italian restaurant Gustoso has a varied menu with very good food ✅️. Staff are friendly and accommodating. There's plenty to watch in the wildlife too, with monkeys passing through and harmless Asian Monitor Lizards occasionally taking a dip in the pool. There are separate kids' and adult pools, though kids can use both. Loungers are first come, first served, so get there before breakfast to grab a good spot. A lovely resort.
