The garden is a lovely place to stroll, and the green, flowery grounds have a classic English-style look. The nights were quiet and peaceful, and it gets quite chilly up here. The town is very close by. Our room was clean and comfortable when we checked in, and the balcony was tidy too. Parking is available, though the lack of an elevator makes this unsuitable for wheelchair users. The staff were friendly, greeting us and wishing us well in the morning. I ran into the owner but felt a little shy about saying hello; they seemed busy with renovations. I’ll definitely come back. Next time, if I have the budget, I’d like to book a bigger room with an even better view.

The staff made our stay especially warm and easy, and we’re sure we’ll return, hopefully for longer to enjoy the spots around the chalet. My husband and I will always remember Bala’s Chalet. Its Tudor-style home is charming, with a real English countryside feel. In Tanah Rata, Cameron Highlands, the weather was glorious, and we loved the views at both sunrise and sunset. I only wish the climbing and flowering plants were kept a little better, since they’re one of the chalet’s best features.

We enjoyed our family retreat and would come back. The garden patio was a lovely place for breakfast, surrounded by greenery and birdsong. The staff were friendly, accommodating, and quick to respond. The chalet has a charming old-English colonial style, with lots of plants, and feels different from a typical hotel. It’s cozy and beautiful. If you’re bringing an older person, choose a ground-floor family room for easier access. Nights can be cold, so bring a sweater, especially for the elders.

The owners were around and clearly took a personal interest in how things were going. Mr Bala was welcoming, and the front desk staff were helpful and informative. You can feel the pride they put into the place. The tea was lovely too, with genuinely good scones, pastries, and sandwiches. It felt like proper high tea, not something assembled for tourists. The rooms were clean and comfortable, with plenty of hot water, which matters in Cameron’s cool weather. They aren’t luxurious, but they’re cozy and suit the property. What stood out most was the peaceful, nostalgic, intimate atmosphere. It feels warm and lived-in, not commercial. Bala’s Chalet has a kind of genuine character that’s hard to find now. I came to Cameron Highlands with my husband for Valentine’s Day, planning to explore, but we ended up happily staying on the property because it was so lovely. The gardens are carefully manicured, and there’s a sense of care in every corner. Walking around made me slow down. The common areas are thoughtfully decorated, with an elegant English countryside feel that never comes across as pretentious. I’d definitely return.

The receptionist was kind and attentive, and breakfast included tasty pancakes and scones. Still, with the high room rates and breakfast quoted at around RM30-40, the morning spread felt poor value. It needs more sweet and savory choices to justify the price. The grounds are attractive, with several houses, gardens, and terraces. The Balat Chalet Hotel near Tanah Rata is in a converted old boarding school, and it has a cozy, rustic, historic feel. It was larger than the small B&B we had expected. We’d suggest trying one of the smaller separate houses or chalets for a better stay, and bringing extra warm clothes or blankets. Our room in the main building was outdated, damp, and in need of maintenance and fresh paint. The poor insulation and thin bedding left us freezing at night, and sound carried badly too. Bring mosquito repellent for dawn and dusk. Internet speed was mixed.
