Meranti Park Suites

The balcony had a great view, and the two-bedroom suite was clean and comfortable. We stayed two nights under BVC membership and cooked for ourselves. There was only a small pan and small pot, so luckily we’d brought an electric cooker. It was a good stay, and we’ll surely return.

The view was lovely, and there were monkeys all around. That’s about the only part we liked. It was a terrible experience, and we’ll never come back. I’m disappointed in Berjaya. The room was filthy and uncomfortable. There were bees and spiders around when we opened the door, and the floor was wet, oily, and sticky. The basin area had a yellow stain that looked like pee. Hot water took 15 minutes to arrive, then the shower swung between super hot and super cold, with very low water pressure. There was no WiFi or TV. The bed was extremely hard and seemed to have dust mites, leaving us all itchy. At night we kept hearing an endless chair-dragging sound, which I think came from the pipe. The cooker in the kitchen looked ancient and melted, and the cups and plates were stained and unclean. They claim only Berjaya members can book and stay, but this is how they treat their members? Very disappointing.

The place is old and poorly maintained, and you can’t get around without a vehicle. If you have one, I’d stay in KL and drive up to visit Colmar. If you’ve already booked, just forget the money and book somewhere else. Best regards. Our room itself was fine, but the next unit had a broken balcony with holes big enough for an adult foot to go through the wooden floor. We were too afraid to step onto our own balcony in case its flooring gave way too. The glass door design also made it impossible to keep insects out, and at night our unit might have been the only one lit up. There’s a sign asking you to keep the glass door shut because stray monkeys live on the property. The unit next door seemed abandoned for a while and was infested with stray cats and rodents. Grass was growing out of it, and sometimes we could hear a monkey and cat fighting. The neighboring room’s unit number was the one after ours. With the exposed, broken room and cats and rodents beside us, it felt like invisible neighbors were staying there. We could hear a cat meowing at night. We booked through Airbnb, where the host was just using their member card to get a discount off the so-called usual rate. That would be fine if the accommodation were good. Reception didn’t welcome us, as if we were a nuisance rather than paying guests. They wanted their quiet time and didn’t want to clean another room.

The main drawback is that Berjaya Hills doesn’t offer many activities families can enjoy together, so there’s not much drawing us back compared with the neighboring hill resort. The club facilities also need refurbishing. They looked old and poorly maintained, and bowling, badminton, tennis, table-tennis, billiards, and other facilities came at a charge. Swimming at the nearby Golf & country club was free for us. We stayed two nights with friends and family under Berjaya vacation club and liked the refurbished apartment, which had all the utensils and cutlery we needed. En. Kamaruddin, the office manager, was very helpful. He said only 13 apartments were available to book, with another 10 being refurbished. It’s a nice, quiet place to relax with family, and we enjoyed our time there.
