The Yanné, Onsen Hotel

Don’t let the pictures fool you, this isn’t four-star quality. The walk to the carpark is long, the building materials feel inferior, and there are uneven patches everywhere. Genting is a distance away, so you need to take a shuttle or drive, and there isn’t much happening in the area. The onsen has no crowd control, so guests can use it repeatedly, and you may be able to negotiate a better deal with the receptionist. Swimwear and even regular clothes like T-shirts were allowed. After people used the pools, there was residue and odd bubbles in the water, and it seemed quite unclean. If you’ve been to a proper Onsen in Japan, I’d avoid this to save yourself the disappointment.

The mountain view from our room was fantastic, and the staff were friendly and mostly helpful. The carpark is quite a walk from the hotel, which could catch first-time visitors off guard. We stayed for three days, but the TV never worked. Staff checked it on the first day and said the connection sometimes sorts itself out. It didn't. The toilet was clogged too, and a plumber came but couldn't fix it. Those problems took away from the good parts of our stay.

The best part for my son and husband was definitely soaking in the hot pool at the Onsen. It was such a relaxing way to unwind, and I'd happily come back. Our room was spacious and clean, with a balcony, and the bed linen was fresh, very clean, and smelled lovely. The team at The Yanne, Genting Highlands was also extremely friendly and helpful throughout our stay.

The parking location was terrible. The hot spring was pleasant, though it's basically a Japanese-style communal bath with hot water, so it was a good enough experience to try once. The rooms were clean, the hotel was nice, and breakfast was decent.
