Sunway Hotel Georgetown Penang

We had no trouble finding a parking spot, and it was free. The room was clean and fairly spacious, with facilities that all worked fine. The staff were helpful and friendly, and there’s plenty of hawker food nearby. In the evening, the stalls make the one-way route to the hotel busier, but we could find another way in without much trouble. The pool is a little small. Some gym machines weren’t working and need attention, and staff have to switch on the outdoor jacuzzi. The room TV also feels small by today’s standards.

Chris and Kevin were especially welcoming, with great personalities and a real service mindset. I was warmly greeted when I checked in, and they were happy to share tips on local food and nice places for an evening out. Bravo!

The location is a real plus: New Lane Hawker Street is right outside, with other eateries and malls easy to reach. Breakfast had plenty of choice, including a live station serving local street food, and it was very enjoyable. My bedroom and bathroom were clean, the bed and air-conditioning were comfortable, and the mini bar had complimentary snacks and soft drinks. I stayed three nights, but there were some frustrating issues. The in-room Wi-Fi wouldn’t connect throughout the stay. Flies were around the coffeehouse every morning at breakfast; I told the staff, but nothing changed, and it seemed no F&B supervisor or manager was on duty. The room had shampoo but no conditioner or bathrobes. There was also a mismatch between the hotel system and Agoda. My booking clearly included breakfast, but the front desk said it didn’t, so I had to show a printed Agoda confirmation. It’s a comfortable, well-situated hotel, though the supervision and booking coordination need work.

The buffet was fresh and tasty, with lots to choose from, and the dining area was clean with good service. Our room was comfortable and clean too, and the staff were friendly. The atmosphere was relaxing, so I was very satisfied and would happily stay again.
