Beds In Garden Hostel

The mattress was comfortable, and the shared areas were clean and cool. Some beds have proper walls between them, which feels more private than a typical hostel. There’s a kitchen and free water, though not cold drinking water. The Ipoh location is good, but the nearby club gets really noisy. Service was disappointing. They said early check-in was possible if a room was available, and one was, but nobody was at reception until 2:30 PM. Even then, someone took another 20 minutes to show up. They require a 50 RM deposit and charge 20 RM if you’re even 5 minutes late checking out. Booking said early check-in was free, while the door says 20 RM. Towels also cost extra. It’s a decent place, but the service doesn’t live up to its potential.

Worst hostel I’ve stayed in by far. I HAD TO CALL THE POLICE. They rented rooms with faulty locks, so I couldn’t get inside mine. The owner kept saying she’d fix it, but after waiting 5 hours she still hadn’t. I offered to call a locksmith and they refused, then still wouldn’t open the door so I could get my things and leave. They finally opened it only after I brought the police. DISGUSTING! The owner said the same issue had happened the day before. WHY MAKE PEOPLE PAY FOR A ROOM THEY CAN’T ACCESS, THEN TELL THEM THEY CAN’T GET THEIR BELONGINGS? I HAD MEDICATION IN THAT ROOM AND COULDN’T TAKE IT BECAUSE OF YOUR SELFISHNESS!

It was good, and I paid 35 for my bed. There are plenty of amenities, including a shower and toilet shared within the room, a common room, and a surprisingly well-equipped kitchen. There’s a RM50 deposit, returned at checkout. It’s quite close to Concubine Lane. I’d recommend it for solo or low-budget travellers.

The rooms feel like bunkers, and being under a techno/house club means you hear the beats all night, like the DJ is playing in your room. There was no warm welcome or kind service, and nobody explained anything. I wouldn’t recommend this hostel.
