TROVE Johor Bahru

Most of the stay was good, but I left unhappy after trying to arrange a late checkout. On May 30 at 11:30am, I called reception because my stomach was acting up and I wanted to use the toilet in our room. I was staying with my girlfriend, and this was a basic need, not a request to extend our stay for a pool swim. The senior staff member sounded cold and overly authoritative. She said they expected high occupancy that Saturday, but I felt she assumed I was trying to take advantage. I only wanted a little flexibility in case I needed the bathroom. We came down well before noon, and after that call I didn’t want to spend another minute there. I’m not desperate for extra time, and this wasn’t my first hotel stay. In tourism, sometimes bending a rule can help guests leave with a pleasant memory. I did not leave Trove hotel happy. I stayed in room 1617 from 28 to 30 May 2026. Please tell the senior Eurasian staff member not to stereotype guests as opportunists.

Julie made our time at the hotel much better. She was easy to approach, genuinely warm, and ready to help whenever we needed something. Nothing seemed like too much trouble, and we felt well looked after throughout. From the moment we arrived, she made things feel comfortable and straightforward. Her manner was professional but still friendly and sincere, and it was clear she takes pride in caring for guests. We’re very grateful she assisted us during our stay.

For the price in Jb, this hotel turned out better than I expected. Our deluxe king room was clean, roomy enough for two, and had a comfortable bed that let me sleep well each night. The bathroom was clean too, with a bidet, good water pressure, and taps that ran properly. The staff were friendly. Breakfast was only decent, and the gym could use improvement, but I’d happily stay here again.

The food selection is why I chose the Ramadhan buffet at Trove Johor Bahru, both this year and last. But dessert availability was disappointing both times. Last year the tiramisu ran out and wasn’t replenished; this year it was the caramel pudding. At more than RM150 per person, that’s not acceptable. Someone who saves dessert until after the main dishes may find it all gone and never get a taste despite paying full price. The food also tasted rather bland overall, and many dishes were dry. It was a disappointing visit, and I won’t be back next year.
