Z Hotel

The damp, grimy carpet was my main complaint. It looked like it hadn’t been cleaned, though luckily slippers were provided. The location is excellent, within walking distance of the heritage walk and lots of food options. They could make the stay much better by doing something about those carpets. I hadn’t expected much, so the nice lobby and polite, helpful staff were a pleasant surprise. Our room was clean and comfortable enough, with shampoo, shower gel, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and cotton buds. The towels were thick and warm, which I really liked. Coffee and tea were available, but housekeeping took a long time to replace them after they were missed on our second day. There’s an overhead fan as well as air conditioning, and the room got sufficiently cold.

We loved the huge windows and the lovely views from our room. The location worked really well too, with a barber my husband could easily reach and the night market just across the road for me. We’ll return to Z Hotel on future trips to JB. 🤗

We came to Johor because Singapore is expensive, and we wanted to save money during the week we were waiting to move on. For the price, this was a very good place to stay and saved us a lot compared with Singapore. Our stay stretched much longer than planned. We were upgraded, which we really appreciated, and when we extended several times for a week, the staff let us keep the upgraded room even though they hadn’t known we’d be extending. They didn’t have to do that. Staff were easy to deal with and made everything run smoothly, and the housekeeping team were sweet too. We had a large, clean triple room on the 19th floor, with a fridge, a very good shower, smart TV, a nice view, strong AC, and a ceiling fan. The gym was decent and we used it a couple of times. There are lots of nice cafes nearby. The Wi-Fi could be very weak, though, and the area next to the hotel sometimes felt a little unsafe, with some strange characters around. I’d avoid the 711 area, it felt a bit dodgy.

The location is a real plus. You can walk to the heritage area, and there are plenty of food options nearby. The bed was comfortable, towels were thick and comfy, and each guest gets two pillows, one soft and one firm. They also provide shampoo, shower gel, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and cotton buds. I’ve stayed at Z Hotel twice before and had such good visits that I came back for a third time. This stay was still decent, but the front desk staff could have been more welcoming, even a simple smile would help. The aircon was noisy, and the room had a slight musty smell. I hope they improve these things by my next visit.
