OYO 1214 Oro Hotel

I ended up leaving after the first night of a booking for two nights because the cigarette smell in the room was overpowering, and I could barely breathe. I told the receptionist, who said, “we can't control other customers who smoke,” and that nothing could be done. There was no apology, room change offer or other solution. When I returned the key that night, the receptionist didn’t even ask why I was leaving early. The lack of care and professionalism was shocking. Agoda wouldn’t refund me because of the hotel's policy. I wouldn’t recommend this place, especially to non-smokers or families. It wasn’t worth the money.

I’d seen mixed reviews for this budget hotel, but decided to give it a try for the price. Check-in was a breeze, and the single room was super clean apart from three strands of hair. The pillow was firm enough for me. There were hangers, a bottle of water, a kettle and a hairdryer, plus multiple TV channels. The toilet was spacious, with a separate shower area and good water pressure. The AC cooled the room fast. There’s plenty of good food in the area. A few drawbacks: the room had dim, warm lighting, and you can hear people talking as they go up the stairs. Housekeeping requires advance notice and handing the key to reception, since they clock out at 3pm. You also have to bring the keycard down to reception daily before noon to extend access. The toilet paper was one-ply facial tissue for big business. There’s no water dispenser, and the tap water tasted funny after boiling. One 500ml bottle wasn’t enough, so I bought 3L MoMa from the cafe each day. Reception is in the Instant Noodles cafe, and check-in requires a $50 deposit.

The hotel was clean, though the bedsheets looked a bit yellow and old, not dirty. There’s no lift, and the room had a window. Parking is at the front and back, but it isn’t private hotel parking. The lobby has 24-hour convenience instant food. The location is handy, close to the bus interchange and Kluang mall. Nearby there’s lots of good food, beer, coffee, massage, a hair salon and facial services, all the things I need.

This was the lousiest hotel I’ve stayed in, and I won’t return. I booked through Agoda after seeing decent reviews, but the experience for my family and me was horrible. At check-in, a middle-aged man was unfriendly and only answered when he felt like it. There’s no lift, and my sister-in-law, who had a mild stroke, struggled with the stairs. Anyone travelling with elderly people or those with leg or knee problems should avoid this place. The Wi-Fi wouldn’t connect, and the fridge and TV didn’t work. In the room there was very little space to walk around. The bed had hair on it, and the pillowcase wasn’t properly washed, though luckily I’d brought a disposable pillowcase. They provided only three small bottles of body gel, with no hand soap, toothpaste or toothbrush. For one night, I paid $44.86, and it wasn’t worth it at all.
