I’ve stayed here often, but this recent visit was unpleasant. The water pump wasn’t working and the big shower head was clogged, so I couldn’t shower properly. When I told reception, I was brushed off with, “memang macam tu sudah check banyak kali”. For over Rm200 a night, there are much better hotels in the city.

I’ve been coming to Rume almost every month since last year, and the staff have been very helpful. But little room issues are piling up and getting irritating: the fridge and TV don’t work, and the safe ran out of battery. I hope management takes notice, since these problems could eventually affect whether guests keep coming back.

I stopped in for lunch and was surprised by how good the food was. It’s totally underrated. The service was good, the food came quickly, and the tables have chargers, so it’s a great spot to get some work done.

The room was passable, but the old, uncomfortable bedding made for a bad night’s sleep. The hotel also requires an RM200 deposit per stay, which feels outrageous, especially compared with some five-star hotels. You can only pay by credit or debit card, and debit card refunds take unnecessarily long. Check-in at 3:00 PM is very late, while check-out at 12:00 PM is strictly enforced. Arriving earlier means paying for a whole extra day, but there’s no flexibility if you need more time at checkout, and delays bring extra charges. I don’t recommend the stay. There are much better value options in Kuching, with more comfort and friendlier policies. The rules here just aren’t worth the hassle.
