Tune Hotel - Waterfront Kuching

I was happy with my stay in the end, but I nearly didn't stay at Tune. After booking, I read the reviews and was shocked, so I booked another hotel too, even though Tune was non-refundable. I checked into both, then found Tune had improved a lot and was better than the other place I booked. So I chose to stay here. The location is really close to the waterfront, local food, and Merdeka Plaza. The lighting was good too, with white lamps rather than yellow, dim ones. In my room I had no problems with the hot water, cleanliness, or AC that some people mentioned. I first booked a “Double Room Without Window.” It was good enough, but felt very closed in, with no ventilation that I could find, and that made me uneasy. I paid an extra RM30 per night to upgrade to a room with a window and was quite satisfied. The receptionist lady helped me with that. The RM50 deposit was mentioned in the booking app, so I brought cash with me. I do think they should add EDC or QR payment, since people often pay cashless now. Even for a budget hotel, a small window or some ventilation in the no-window rooms would be better for safety. Also, this was my first time having to collect the AC and TV remotes from reception. Who would steal a remote? Guests shouldn't have to carry them around, sometimes it's a hassle. 😁 I enjoyed my stay. If you're booking, I'd suggest at least getting a “Double Room with Window”.

Alia at reception kindly arranged the riverside view I asked for, and it was breathtaking 🥰. The room itself is small and basic, but fair for the price. There's a water dispenser if you'd rather avoid using a single-use plastic bottle, and ironing facilities on every floor. Hair dryers are limited, though, so I hope they add more.

A convenient store is nearby, and they provide two cards. The amenities are basic, but the location is very strategic, close to town and the waterfront. A good choice if you want an affordable hotel in that area.

I found the rooms quite cramped for praying, and there was no prayer mat or mukena available. The hotel didn't feel very Muslim-friendly to me. When I asked whether staff could help arrange a mukena, perhaps by borrowing one from a Muslim staff member, they didn't offer any help. Even a small gesture like that would have made Muslim guests feel more understood and supported.
