The receptionist was very welcoming. From her accent, I’d guess she has a Philippine background, and many people from there once came to work on the island. Labuan Avenue Hotel is family-owned and budget-friendly, centrally located, and has a nostalgic feel as one of the island’s older places to stay. It replaced the historic Kim Soon Lee Hotel, which closed permanently in 1987 after operating as Labuan’s first family-owned hotel under the Lim family. Labuan Avenue Hotel seems to have appeared in the late 1980s or early 1990s, continuing local hospitality traditions. I believe it’s a three-storey building; some ground-floor rooms have no windows and cost less. My room was nice and clean, though if you’re 5’11, your toes may stick out because the bed is on the small side. The air conditioning was cold but the duvet was thin. Hot water and pressure were good, and everything was clean. The toilet seemed to leak inside, as if the float stopped too early, and you could hear water trickling at night when it was quiet. There were two free bottles of drinking water, plus self-serve coffee and tea outside. The location is right in town, with easy access to food, the market, and a liquor store. A great stay overall.
Good value and a solid place to stay, especially for a solo traveler. It’s next to Laman Victoria, with restaurants, a duty-free shop, and a pharmacy close by, and you can easily walk around town.
The location made it easy to walk to food, shops, the ferry terminal, and landmarks. We stayed over an extended weekend and rested well each night. The shared spaces were clean, comfortable, and well looked after, with comfy lobby seats, a long table for tea, and a kitchen stocked with pretty cups and mugs, powdered tea and coffee, and a couple of light snacks. Our room had clean, slightly rough linens, effective air conditioning, and a bathroom with a shower stall, toilet, and sink. Water pressure was good, and the working AC made hot showers nice. Inserting the room key to turn on power makes a loud bang, which is disconcerting at first. Hallway voices carry clearly, but most guests were courteous. I’d definitely stay again.
The hotel is well kept and clean, and the staff are friendly and helpful. It’s a small, three-storey place in town, very close to the ferry terminal. Food and a supermarket are within a five-minute walk. The rooms are basic but adequate, and there’s a water cooler on every floor. There’s also a pantry with biscuits, coffee, and tea available around the clock. We caught the New Year fireworks around Labuan from the roof terrace.
Getting here from the ferry station is easy on foot, and the hotel sits right in the centre of town. The lobby is open and friendly, with seats and a simple kitchen for making tea or coffee. Our queen room was spacious and the bed was good, but the shower only got lukewarm, not properly hot. There was a slight smell in the bathroom and hallways, maybe from the cleaning soap. In the middle of the night, someone about 10 metres away made a lot of noise on his phone. Luckily, he got the message when we knocked on his door.
