Myrus Resort Langkawi

The breakfasts were delicious and filling, and my kids loved using the resort’s binoculars to watch monkeys. The staff were wonderful throughout, especially Qasim, who was a delight. The resort has so much potential, but most facilities are in bad shape. Before posting, I emailed the hotel with this review to give them a chance to refute it. They apologized and did not contest it. Our villa was advertised as having a garden view with terrace, but the terrace was torn, ratty AstroTurf and three swinging benches pushed into a corner. The roof had a sloppy-looking repair with metal flashing, I think, almost like duct tape. There was a small playground beside the villa with uneven rubber padding, and the equipment had a lot of rust and cracks. The metal stairs to the big water slides were incredibly rusty, and parts of the water playground were covered in what looked like brown water stains. The playroom in the main clubhouse was marked “closed for renovations,” but I saw no sign of work. The pool table had a torn, sloppily taped tarp over it, with a sign saying not to remove it. The poolside bar existed but wasn’t in use, except for what seemed to be a New Year’s Eve party, judging by trash still left around a week later. Signs also advertised a bar and grill open for lunch until 2:30, but I saw no bar, no grilling, and nothing open after breakfast ended at 10 a.m. In the room, there were no cups, washcloths, hand towels, or bathroom soap when we arrived. It smelled musty the whole week. There was no soap by the kitchenette sink, one of our two mugs was chipped, and the electric kettle had a dead bug in it. Staff quickly brought new mugs and soap. I left a dirty mug in the sink, and it wasn’t cleaned for three days. Housekeeping came unpredictably unless we explicitly requested a visit. The mini fridge was quite small, and its shelf was rusty. There was no microwave, so we couldn’t heat leftovers. We ordered delivery often, mostly because the hill was so steep and the buggy wasn’t a convenient way to get a ride back up when cell service was unreliable. The shower was hard to use. It didn’t get warm even after a long wait, and the knob was slippery with wet hands. Its head leaked and sprayed in several directions, soaking most of the bathroom, where water drained and dried slowly. The glass wall between shower and toilet was quite small, perhaps 90 cm, leaving the shower mostly open. The bath mat had several stains, frayed edges, and small holes. Towels were frayed and didn’t match. Two of the wall lights in the main room didn’t work. The windows were small and dirty, two of the three were broken, and the curtains kept falling off their rails. Walls were dirty, with peeling plaster. The beds and TV stand were in rough shape, with poor attempts to “fix” them. The linens were generally low quality. Between the dirty floors and low thread count, it felt like sleeping on sandpaper. There were no fitted sheets, so the sheets came off the mattress at night. Many floor tiles were chipped, exposing large areas of white ceramic. The chips were usually in the middle of the tiles rather than at the edges, making the floor look dirty or dangerous, or both. Some tile joints appeared to have caulk instead of grout, applied so amateurishly that caulk was left on both sides of the grout line.

We had a wonderful time here with our kids. The facilities suited them really well, and the cafe served delicious breakfasts and meals at very reasonable prices. The resort isn’t beachfront, but we loved the sunset view from our duplex villa. We’ll definitely come again to support the place for its wonderful service.

Please take this seriously, especially if you have kids with allergies or asthma. The rooms smelled like a dump and were so small it felt like sleeping in a shower. The facilities looked nothing like the advertisements. It wasn’t worth the price, and I wouldn’t stay again. Breakfast had only two options, and the old, rusty swimming pool didn’t feel safe. The manager and boss were very rude. Go look around before paying in full, because once you’ve paid, you’re trapped 🥺

We’re on our second day here and are very satisfied so far. The room is shaped like half a football, and inside it’s clean and well organized. The pool is spotless, and the kids love it so much they’d rather stay in it all day than go out. There are six main dishes to choose from at breakfast, and we tried four. The servings were generous, so we were completely full. Pancakes, fruit, cornflakes, and various drinks were available too. My favorite part is that the cappuccino is refillable!
