Layang Layang Guest House

The location is central, with many attractions an easy walk away, and the price is good. The stay was great, thanks. There’s no private bathroom, and the shared setup isn’t suitable for couples. The floor feels weak and makes noise that can disturb guests, and the rooms don’t have good soundproofing.

The staff were welcoming, the shared bathrooms were clean, and I really liked the vibe and decor. It’s hard to get more central. I’d give it five stars based on my stay, though there are a couple of things to know. The wooden floors are very loud underfoot, and a ground floor room might keep you awake. I was upstairs, so it didn’t affect me. The walls are thin, so loud talking carries, and tuk tuks go past late at night playing loud music. I had a white noise machine that drowned it out, but light sleepers may struggle.

The guesthouse is a lovely place to rest between trips around Malacca. It’s beside the city centre and river walk, yet on a quiet street, so it stays peaceful. The room was cute and comfortable, with a good bed and air conditioning. The shared bathrooms were clean, and there were enough of them for everyone. The beautiful building has an inner courtyard with a fountain, plus free coffee and water. Everything felt tasteful, and the owner was very kind. A great base for exploring.

The location was really convenient, and our stay was mostly pleasant. The front desk staff were quick to help, the Wi-Fi was fast and steady, and towels and toiletries were supplied, though there was no toothbrush or toothpaste. I’d put cleanliness at about 4 out of 5, with the old building and facilities accounting for the point off. One night, another traveller got drunk and spent hours vomiting in the bathroom. The sound insulation is poor, a bit like an old kampung grandma’s house, and the noise kept us awake. I’d recommend it for budget travellers who sleep soundly.
