The best part is how private it feels, since there are only a limited number of people on the island at a time. The beach water is usually calm too, as it faces Borneo rather than the South China Sea. The staff are really friendly, and there’s plenty to do. The place seems to get mostly Chinese tourists. I’d say 2-5 nights is worth it, especially with a group, since there’s enough to keep you busy. The lodges have aircon, heated showers and regular sit-down toilets, but they’re pretty basic. There’s no electricity from dawn until dusk, so you’ll want to spend the bright hours at the beach, restaurant or doing activities instead of sitting in the sauna-like lodge. There’s no TV, and the outlets are UK-style, so bring a travel plug. Wi-Fi is unavailable, though 4G coverage is good. Get a prepaid SIM with enough data before you come. Mosquitoes are hard to avoid completely, even though the staff try to keep them away. The atmosphere is great and the activities are plentiful. It’s a bit primitive, but the people working there and the things to do make that easy to forget.
