Ipoh French Hotel

The French Hotel is next to the historic former Lido Theater and makes a convenient base for exploring Ipoh’s culture, food, and traditions. Popular local eateries are within walking distance, while major attractions and shopping malls are a short drive away. The room was spacious and clean, with a comfortable, well-maintained modern bathroom and toilet. Most rooms have no windows, which could suit light sleepers, but set an alarm so you don’t oversleep. Staff were polite and friendly, and a security guard at the main entrance added reassurance. Guest parking is in the open space between the former Lido Theater and Cathay Theater, now Warung Theater by Nifayyi. One parking heads-up: Jalan Lim Bo Seng and Jalan Horley are closed on Sunday mornings for the market, so avoid leaving your car on those roads over the weekend.

The room is a nice size and Old Ipoh is walkable from here. It could use a little touch-up, but the AC gets cold, which matters more in this hot climate.

The French Hotel was a convenient stop, with smooth check-in and staff who were friendly and helpful the whole time. Getting a flexible late checkout at 12:00 was a great bonus. It’s well placed for travel and close to the train station. The room had hot and cold water, good shower pressure, bright bathroom lighting, and plenty of sink space for toiletries. There was also a useful fridge and enough UK-type outlets. I didn’t try the TV, so can’t comment on it. The bed was only okay, but fine for a few nights. I’d recommend it for the service and convenience.

We stayed in room 205. The place looks renovated, and everything seems to be working. The AC was very cold regardless of the temperature setting. The rain shower faucet wasn’t straightforward: it took us a while to work out how to turn it on, then it was a mission to stop it. The main complaint is that the Agoda room description says there’s a separate shower and bathtub, but that isn’t true. The bathroom has no molding, which seems like a sign.
