Grayhaus Guest House

My dealings with Grayhaus are over. After being a returning guest for quite a while and putting up with several unpleasant encounters, the last one was so horrible that I won’t stay there again. The rooms and stay only meet the minimum. For value, the best option is the first-floor queen room with shared bathroom. Ground-floor rooms have no ventilation, or a window facing storage, and thin walls that let you hear workers during the day. Upstairs rooms cost too much for what you get. The place is relatively clean, and the Pakistani workers do a decent job, though their boss, Vijay, can be loud watching videos in the morning and daytime. He can be volatile, and extremely rude if you catch him on a bad day. None of them are trained to deal with guests, so I wouldn’t try. Contacting “management” is just as disjointed. The WhatsApp team is in Ipoh and doesn’t really know what’s happening at the house in BU or have control. They defer to Vijay to speak with the two Pakistanis, and often that doesn’t resolve things. The husband and wife managers seem decent, but live across the road and visit now and then. They’re very strict about cars stopping outside, which made me feel watched and stressed. As a tenant, I couldn’t freely have friends or loved ones help with bags or drop me off or pick me up. The setup feels cold and transactional. The worst encounter was with their daughter, Miko. She was young and emotionally charged, came in accusing me, showed little interest in solving the problem and was immature in how she dealt with guests. The negative reviews seem to get accusatory replies instead of a willingness to listen or improve, so I won’t be surprised if mine gets the same. Some personal belongings I’d left behind because I visit every few months were taken without anyone trying to contact me, even though I’d left my name and phone number. Some were valuable prescription items. Losing them made my last visit difficult, and Miko shouted accusations at me, even though my belongings were the ones taken.

The host later accused us and took a cleaning fee from our deposit, which felt unfair and unprofessional. We won’t return. The bedsheet was dirty when we arrived, but it was late, so we didn’t complain. During the stay, the water kept switching between hot and cold, pressure was very low and the toilet wouldn’t flush properly. The air-conditioner wasn’t cold, the electricity was unstable, and the room smelled bad and had dim lighting. Very disappointing.

The host later blamed us and deducted money from our deposit. That was handled very disappointingly, and I wouldn’t recommend the place. Our stay was unpleasant: the hot water kept fluctuating, pressure was weak, the toilet had flushing problems, the air-conditioner didn’t cool the room, and there was a bad smell and poor lighting. The bedsheet was dirty when we arrived, but we chose not to argue.

The cleanliness was really poor, and this was the worst experience. Even for one night, they charged extra for electricity. You also have to pay extra to use the facilities, while the kitchen is just for display and guests aren’t allowed to use it.
