I'm writing this before check-in, so this isn't a review of the hotel itself. It's about Booking.com, the booking agent allowed to take reservations for the hotel. The site showed a two-night package reduced from RM416 to RM250, but the prices looked misleadingly marked up to four times the actual room price before the discount, and even RM250 was 50% higher. My guest was due on 2 March. Three days before arrival, I clicked Check Availability and landed on a page with a “RESERVE” button. Since the guest was coming soon, I clicked it, taking the word reserve at face value. Booking.com's small print said, “You won't be charged yet.” The next page had a blue “I'll reserve” button and the same reassurance underneath. The misleading presentation continued until payment. Only in the small print did it say the booking was non-refundable. They lock you in when you confirm by filling out the form, without making clear they intend to charge on confirmation. That intention is hidden behind the Question Mark icon. I thank the Hotel Management for replying quickly and agreeing that I shouldn't use 3 Stars on the hotel's Google Map listing, since I hadn't stayed there and could only review the room after check-in. I had given three stars to indicate a middle rating, neither good nor bad, so my warning about Booking.com would go through. Management replied that I should book directly with Hotel 99, which I took in good faith. I've changed the rating to four stars because of their reply. I repeat, don't use Booking.com. Once bitten, twice shy. I'll avoid it from now on.

Check-in and check-out were really easy, and the morning and night reception staff were friendly and helpful. I stayed three nights this week. The room was neat, clean, and well maintained for a budget hotel. I also liked being near the lake and went for a morning walk there every day.

The room was shockingly dirty. The pillow had black stains, and I paid RM130+ for cleanliness worse than a budget hotel. When I went down to ask for a clean pillow, the staff member was still unpleasant. I offered for her to come up and see it, but she said, “I can't go up, I'm here only.” After I showed the photos, she said, “Oh... it's just black marks.” Is a dirty pillow supposed to be normal for customers? At least the man who came to change it was decent and polite. I'm a woman staying alone, so when a man in casual clothes knocked on my door at night, I panicked. I don't know if it's normal for hotel staff not to wear uniforms. I booked and paid through Agoda, but the late night check-in was a nightmare. The woman at the counter insisted on a RM50 cash deposit, with no TNG, card, or other option. She told me, “No cash? Go to the ATM and get some.” I had only RM45. I've stayed here before but couldn't remember the deposit because I travel often. I was willing to go to the ATM if she'd asked politely. My husband was about to arrive and could have brought the cash later, but I was alone and it was very late, and I just wanted to put my things in the room. She still refused. So, if there's no cash and the ATM is broken, does that mean you can't enter the hotel? I was left standing there for about a minute while she chatted happily on the phone and ignored me as if I weren't there. I can accept an old hotel, but I can't accept this kind of dirt. Honestly, this is the most disappointing hotel I've ever stayed in.

There's plenty of food around and the location is prime, but the room is tiny. A double bed takes up nearly all the space, so there's nowhere to walk, and you can basically just sit or rest on the bed. The TV is small and the table isn't big enough to eat at, so bringing takeaway back isn't ideal. Nothing special about it, though one night is alright.

The room was about what I'd expect for the price, but the receptionist was rude. I checked in at 5.30pm on 11/11/25 and only had RM45 in cash. She said to me, “You mean you don't know you need a RM50 deposit?” I've checked in here before, but I travel a lot and couldn't remember. I'd have gone to the ATM to get RM50 if she'd spoken politely. That kind of rudeness will drive customers away.
