The border shuts at 4:30, so keep an eye on the time. If you miss it or have trouble crossing, you can turn back and stay overnight at the Farmstall. It's a handy, charming stop near the border where you can take a break and recharge. They have ice-cold beer, especially nice for the guys to relax with after a long drive. A welcoming place to know about when traveling through the area.

Coming out of Kgalagadi National Park through the Mata Mata gate, we found Kalahari Farmstall and had the best toasted sandwiches. The rooms we saw were gorgeous and stylish. We also managed to book a room in Keetmanshoop owned by the same people. The design and style there are world-class, at a truly reasonable price. It's an easygoing border crossing from Namibia into South Africa, and the coffee shop and guest house are an absolute oasis. Don't drive past Kalahari Farmstall or you'll miss a magical place.

Basic campsites on a working farm, with thick sand, partial shade, a braai stand and power points. The communal ablutions include an interlock area where we were allowed to camp so my husband, who uses a wheelchair, could manage. The owner and staff were friendly. There's a small, fairly well-stocked shop and restaurant, plus a swimming pool.

The setting is beautiful and the place is decorated really well. We arrived just after noon on New Year's Day, and Lizbet seemed to be the only woman working. She was incredible, taking eight food and drink orders and getting them out super quickly. The food was delicious and reasonably priced.

I'd go back. It was lovely to get a taste of farm life, walk in the veld and listen to the birds. Our rooms were very spacious, and the food and milkshakes were out of this world. Thanks to Liesbet for that. It was all in the middle of nowhere, and you can stay here on the way to Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park.
