Great lodge, lovely staff, and good value overall. We stayed at the Palmwag campsite and had our own bathroom. The lodge buffet was delicious, and the laundry service was great too. The staff were especially attentive. Rhino Tracking cost 3,950 NAD, which felt overpriced. We did see one rhino after a seven-hour day, and I appreciated how committed the rangers were, but the outing didn’t have the adventure I expected. The guides handle all the tracking, with guests walking only the last few meters to the animal. It made for an exhausting day with very little for us to do, and I’ve had much better tracking trips elsewhere in Namibia.

Palmwag Lodge sits in a lovely spot beside an almost dry riverbed with lush vegetation, and we were lucky to watch a big family group of elephants meander nearby for hours. A lone male even came onto the lawn outside our room. The views from around the lodge and the rooms are beautiful, and Damaraland itself is stunning. We stayed a couple of nights with friends during our Namibia holiday. Our room was a bit tired but clean and comfortable. Dinner was a buffet each night, perfectly good, though we’ve had better food elsewhere in Namibia. We’d booked months ahead and still had to join the waiting list. The lodge is in Gondwana’s more basic category, so keep that in mind and you should enjoy your stay.

Really good campsite, with a built-in shower and toilet for each site, plus its own picnic spot and plenty of shade. There are two pools that everyone can use. The rhino trip was nice, and we did see one. Still, it felt like the crew stopped looking once they found it, when we’d hoped to keep searching and see more. The guide had lots to share about rhinos and the local vegetation, which was interesting.

We camped here and the facilities were great. Having your own kitchen and bathroom is a real plus, and the bar is an easy walk away if you want a light meal. But please keep the reception shop stocked. There wasn’t a single large bottle of water for three days.

Our favorite campsite during a two-week Namibia road trip. Each camp has a private toilet and shower area, which we really appreciated, especially since it locks and nobody else has to share it. The sunset spot for drinks was lovely, and we spent two days here. All the staff were friendly. Thanks especially to Michelle and her colleagues on the late shift on May 31, who made us feel so welcome. I’d recommend the rhino tracking tour too. Our rhino ranger, Martinez, was professional and knew a lot about the rhinos; Nero, our guide and driver, was great as well. I’d tell other travelers to stop here.
