Eden Self Catering Chalets

Very disappointed. On a previous visit, I saw the manager scold staff in front of paying customers. They were standing by the door, attentive and smiling at us, while everyone had drinks or food in front of them. He told them they were "just standing around." I came back Sunday at 10:15 and found breakfast ended at 10:00, while Sunday lunch didn't start until 12:00 and was only available as a set menu. I couldn't see the birds because "they're breeding now." None of this was on their website, and I couldn't find a notice on their Facebook either.

The owner/manager was very friendly, and the place looks good from outside with plenty of parking. Its best feature for us was being close to Windhoek airport. The room was large, with a decent ensuite, microwave, kettle, and bar fridge. At the restaurant, service needs more training. Our waitress was lovely but seemed unsure, and the food took a long time even though we were the only customers. My cordon bleu was still medium rare underneath, with a soggy coating from the meat juices instead of a crisp one. The fries and vegetables were tasty. My husband's eisbein was cold and undercooked near the bone. The room wasn't very clean, and I'm only 90% sure the bed linen was fresh. There were no toiletries, and the shower was disgusting and clearly needs replacing. We were fighting off mosquitoes but couldn't figure out where they got in. The public bar meant the front gate stayed open until the last person left, which didn't reassure us about our car. There was no gate security, and the alarm at the property across the road kept going off, so we repeatedly checked the car. We could hear bar visitors shouting even from the opposite end of the property. We booked somewhere else for our return to Windhoek. I'd suggest looking elsewhere.

We attended a wedding here and thought the venue was beautifully done. The food was excellent. We didn't stay overnight, though the place is within driving distance of Windhoek on the way to Hosea Kutako Airport, so it could work for an overnight stop.

Johan, the owner, gave us an amazing welcome when we came to view the facilities. The place is clean and beautiful, and the prices are affordable. Animals around the property give it an outdoors feel. I'd recommend it for an event, a day visit, or a getaway with family and friends. Two thumbs up!
