Kanua Tera Ecolodge

The room had a superb view of the sea and sunset, but there was no Wi-Fi, no shampoo or soap, and the safe didn't work. There were loads of mosquitoes and nothing in the room to keep them away. The double bed was small and so hard it was really uncomfortable. We waited an hour and a half for dinner because they seated large groups of outside visitors. That didn't feel very nice for hotel guests. The food was okay, though roasted quail and beef bourguignon didn't really suit the seaside, tropical setting. The sautéed vegetables seemed like they might have come from cans and been microwaved. I also got a terrible watery piña colada. There aren't any other food options within an hour's drive. Service was generally okay and helpful, though at times a bit blunt and direct.

The bungalows are lovely, cosy, right on the water, and surrounded by beautiful scenery. It's a little quiet paradise after hours of driving on seriously potholed roads. A 4WD is recommended for the Great South's roads. Service was friendly, but incredibly slow, and prices felt a bit steep, probably because there's no option to eat out. The food was good, though breakfast was a real letdown. I'd say 3.5 stars, but 4 will do.

The bungalows are cosy, the setting is quiet, and there's a handy beach. Dinner was great. Just know that Wi-Fi is only available in the main building.

A lovely spot for relaxing, with the water just outside the hut bedroom. At night you can hear it lapping gently.
