AGC Hotel

The rooms are pretty spacious, but don’t expect too much, there’s nearly always something to complain about. Room service is poor, and the food is only average. They should improve both the rooms and service if they want to do better business.

AGC has a beautiful restaurant serving Nigerian dishes and a few continental options. Whatever you request is prepared by the chef. There aren’t many staff around, but that made me feel pampered and personally looked after. Sometimes one of the receptionists brings your meal, other times the chef does, and that little bit of unpredictability made the experience special. The hotel is tucked away at the end of 69 Road in gwarimpa, in the area people call “Charlie Boy Area.” Shopping centres are close by, and if you’re not driving, a Keke ride to nearby malls and business centres costs no more than N100. With traffic moving lightly, Wuse or Central Area is about 15 minutes away, and maitama about 12 minutes. Getting to other parts of town takes no more than 20 minutes. It’s secure and peaceful, with properly trained staff and a home away from home sort of atmosphere. The rooms are spacious and soooo cheap! I paid 8,000 for a room that could easily go for 15,000 naira, with only half the amenities, if AGC were in Wuse, let alone Maitama. The far-out location in gwarimpa can hide how grand the hotel is. It’s exquisite, a green snake under the grass, in a good way. AGC is a definite go-go for me, and I’ll stay here every time I visit Abuja again. I’d rather get this kind of service in gwarimpa than deal with the careless attitudes of already tense staff in crowded hotels in Wuse, Garki, and Maitama. A truly awful hotel, with terrible management and air conditioning. They shut off the generator at midnight, leaving the place hot and full of mosquitoes. I wouldn’t advise anyone to stay here. It’s simply the worst!
