Sun Heaven Hotel & Resort Abuja

The receptionists are super nice, and the assorted Okra with pounded yam is great. They also do a good job with the other Nigerian dishes. The WiFi works well, and the water pressure is good. It’s about a 10-minute walk from the Swedish embassy.

I’m still hoping to get my 10k excess charge refunded, if they consider it reasonable. If the website price hadn’t been misleading, I probably wouldn’t have spent time documenting everything. I might have just accepted it as another shortcoming in Nigeria’s hospitality industry, where low-quality service seems widespread, and moved on quietly. I booked Sun Heaven Hotel Asokoro through its website at 45k, but when I arrived, the receptionist said the online rate wasn’t the real price and I had to pay 55k. The only payment choice on the booking page was “pay on arrival,” as shown in one of the screenshots. I had arrived late at night and had already paid 21k+ for a Bolt ride from the airport, so I felt I had no choice. I see this as attracting customers with a false price, and I’m guessing pay on arrival is the only option for that reason. I emailed the address listed on the site and still haven’t had an acknowledgment. My text to the listed phone number never delivered. The social media links don’t go to the hotel’s pages, and the supposed WhatsApp link opens LinkedIn. I’m very disappointed by this “Nigerian anyhowness.” A friend recommended the place and is disappointed too. In the 55k room, mosquitoes bothered me, and there was a bedsheet stained with their blood, as shown in my attached picture. Early in the morning I could hear staff talking loudly downstairs in the compound, fetching water and pouring it noisily. It made me wonder if they were filling a tank by hand without a bore hole or a more standard water source. The toilet smelled like a sewer. I wish there were a way to prove that kind of awful, repulsive odor. This Abuja hotel has no integrity or reliability, in my view. I don’t recommend Sun Heaven Hotel Asokoro. After my time in Abuja and once I’m back in Lag, I intend to keep informing the public on socials and tag their handles.

The surroundings were serene, and I had a great room. The outdoor spaces didn’t impress me much, though, and service was okay. The portions were small, but the food tasted good. It’s a decent hotel in Asokoro, Abuja, an area colleagues used to call Old money.

It’s a good hotel in a remarkable location, and the service is good too. I did have to call before they brought toothbrush and toothpaste. Restaurant service has slowed down a lot. Food that should take 30 to 40 minutes can take almost two hours. When I was very sick, I asked for noodles, omelette, and plantain, and waited nearly two hours. By the time it arrived I was tired, couldn’t eat half, and had lost my appetite, so I went to the clinic.
