The rooms and interior look wow, and you can tell the owner spent a lot. But the service was so poor when I went to Abaranje last weekend with friends. We booked five rooms. The network was bad, and they didn't even give us the hotel password. Staff were rude to clients, from the gateman onwards, except for one older woman who tried to speak to them, but they wouldn't listen. I saw a scene where a guy accused a woman falsely. Even after confirming she wasn't the person in question, he still didn't apologize. If I were the one being falsely accused, I swear he would've been questioned. The manager was wow too. I've stayed in hotels in Lagos, and I can tell this needs work. They cleaned a room but left a used condom wrapper behind. That could have ruined one of our friends' marriage if we hadn't been there, since it was the husband who noticed it.

It's beside a tarred road along Abaranje, so passersby can easily see the hotel. The facility is modern and creates a beautiful setting, and they have rules intended to keep guests safe. Free WiFi is good, and the telecom is cosy. Rooms cost #20,000 to #60,000. I think the #60,000 option is an apartment with a kitchenette. I had mixed feelings about staying here. The bedspread and duvet seemed unclean, probably not washed after the previous guests. They were also economical with the toiletries, though I can understand why. Lighting in the cheapest room was too poor for reading or work that needs light, and drinking water cost #500 a bottle. If they fixed some of these issues, it could feel like a home away from home.

The service from staff is just bad, no sugar coating it. After I'd paid for a room, the porter saw me carrying bags and still asked if I wanted help before getting up from his seat. Little things like that kept happening. Aso Rock has a lot of niggling problems, and your experience seems to depend on your gender, who's on duty, and whether it's day or night. It has plenty of potential, but often seems to get in its own way. The owner or owners need to decide whether this is a hotel or more of a nightclub and bar annex, then focus on that.

I was at the bar on Saturday night. After I paid to the staff member's personal OPay account, the accountant or supervisor said he couldn't see the money and pressured me to pay again. He was insulting and rude, with no customer relationship awareness. I showed my statement and the SMS alert with the payment and exact time. It took over an hour before he finally accepted that he'd seen it. Either he was being fraudulent or he wasn't paying attention to his job. At this level of business, why are they still using a personal account? Payment confirmation isn't difficult anymore with a fintech bank.

The rooms are okay, but the staff were some of the rudest I've come across, from security to the porter and other staff. The TV only gets one channel, and the bar, lounge, and other activities shut down at 12am. Even as a guest, expect security to chase you back to your room if you're lingering around the premises. There's no complimentary breakfast unless you take the 50k room, and even then it's just two slices of bread, one sachet of Milo, and milk. After paying 30k for a room, they give you 50 naira toilet paper. If you're bringing your partner, stay with her the whole time if you don't want them to profile her as a prostitute. I gave them one star for the service. That'll do for now, go experience it for yourself too.
