Lovely atmosphere, safe for kids, and an excellent restaurant. The poolside bar and eat-in restaurant are a must for the view, which is a 100. Prices are affordable. Check the menu carefully, or ask for Timothy, a great and honest waiter.

The lagoon view is good, the rooms are clean, and the bed is comfortable. The furniture feels old-fashioned, and most of the food was bland, except at the Italian restaurant downstairs. The Wi-Fi is awful. This feels more like a three-star hotel in an upscale neighborhood. One thing to know: reception starts calling at 10 am to remind you checkout is at noon, so if you sleep in, that'll wake you up.

At 25 Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue in Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria, The Black Diamond Hotel is a four-star luxury hotel in the city center, with lagoon views and a tranquil atmosphere. It has two restaurants, including an Italian one, plus a lounge bar, café, and wine tasting room. Breakfast comes in continental or buffet styles, with local and international food.

The public spaces on the first and second floors were elegant, and the amenities were nice. The balcony was good to have, too. But the rooms were badly neglected. Their basic 32-inch LCD TVs weren't smart, with no Netflix or YouTube. The ceilings and tiles looked decades old and were cracked, the furniture was cheap and old, and the mattress sat on plywood. The very old bedding needs replacing. Floor tiles were chipped and cracked, curtains were ragged, and the window panels were dusty. The couches had stains of different ages. As someone who travels a lot, that bathroom hair dryer was the oldest I've seen in a hotel. I'd give the public areas 8/10 and the rooms 2/10. Hotels I've stayed in around both mainland and island Lagos were much better. For a hotel advertised as luxury, it doesn't justify the price. Calling it luxury feels like false advertising, and that's especially disappointing. If you don't care much about where you sleep and care more about the shared spaces, you might like Black Diamond.
