Caravel Suites

Caravel Suites suited me well for a budget stay on the Island, and I had a great time. The staff showed professionalism and competence. The room aesthetics need work, and the complimentary breakfast could use improvement.

The neighborhood is peaceful and fairly central, with easy access to taxis and other parts of the Island. The staff were friendly and the meals tasted good, but the rooms and amenities need a lot of maintenance. Everything had a damp, unpleasant smell. I had to leave my deluxe room after its AC leaked all night and still didn't cool. Water from the shower area ran into the toilet section, and the room was so small there wasn't room for my suitcase. In the executive suite, the bathroom ceiling leaked, the shower head only worked when positioned just so, and the room ceiling leaked too, so they put a towel down to soak up the water. There was no hot water for over an hour on my second day. This place could be great if they did the needed maintenance.

The hotel grounds are calm and secure, and I liked the reception furniture and setup. Still, the shower didn't work, so I filled a bucket with room-temperature water. There was no hot water, coffee, or floor towel, and the vanity kit was poor. The receptionist seemed unhappy to be there and wasn't welcoming. I somehow feel they deliberately gave me the worst room. I'll see what the breakfast is like and may add that later, but I wouldn't recommend the place.

It's a beautiful, neat and very quiet place, and most of the stay was okay. The water stopped running from 7am to 10:30am on 23 February 2022 after my first night. I hope they make sure that doesn't happen again. The air conditioning was okay, the bar and restaurant were good, the WiFi was fast, and the staff were courteous.
