I’ve been coming back to this establishment because it’s close to my two properties on Muritala Eletu. I’ve had a bad experience before, but this rooftop visit was easily the worst. I came alone for a drink and to relax, as I usually come with my husband. I waited more than 30 minutes for a server to greet me, then finally managed to order. Another 20 minutes later, she brought the wrong drink. I said right away that it wasn’t what I’d asked for, and she rolled her eyes, smacked her teeth, and walked away. She refused to take it back, so I had to get another server to help. A supervisor was called, but did nothing. He argued that I had to pay for the drink I hadn’t consumed because it was already made. Meanwhile, the frozen drink was still on the table, melting everywhere. I don’t expect to be confronted or coerced over a staff mistake. I said I wanted to leave, but they harassed me and effectively detained me downstairs while pressuring me to pay for a drink I hadn’t ordered or touched. I called my husband to intervene. Only when a man arrived did the staff change their story and call it a “miscommunication.” Other reviews seem to point to the same thing: women aren’t respected, and bad service turns into intimidation when they speak up. Trying to make a woman pay for a server’s mistake and effectively holding her hostage is unacceptable and unsafe. I was lucky to be in my own area and able to call for help quickly. I can’t imagine what might have happened otherwise. If they’d simply taken the drink back and replaced it without a fight, I would have bought a few. After arguing with the server and supervisor just to get it remade, following such slow, poor service, I don’t want to spend money there again. I won’t return, and I strongly caution women, especially those visiting alone. Mayhill is a much better option for decent customer service. Management really needs to reconsider who they hire. It’s a beautiful place, but the people working there will ruin the experience.
