Damgrete Royal Hotel

My shower was a letdown, with barely any water coming through the holes. The food was delightful, especially the boiled potatoes with egg and fish sauce. That sauce was unforgettable, full of flavour and clearly made with care. The staff were warm, courteous and always ready to help, with sharp organisation and communication. Hotel Royal Damgrete has a grand, sophisticated building and furnishings, but some of that shine has faded. It could use maintenance and gentle refurbishment to bring it back to its full glory.

The workers were friendly and faithful to their duty, and everything was very neat with good lighting. It’s an exquisite building of international standard. Some small facilities need fixing, like covers for the wash tub and bath tub, so you can hold the water and soak instead of having to use buckets. Nice indeed.

It’s in a good, cool area, and the place is very good.

I spent two weeks at Damgrete, so I got a decent feel for the hotel. It’s in the best part of Umuahia city, and the rooms are spacious and luxurious. I’d give the service 6 out of 10, since many staff pay attention to guests and treat them with honor. The restaurant service and food need lots of improvement. A quality chef could take it to a perfect 9 out of 10.
