Albert Suites

The calm, comfortable setting is a plus, and for the price it’s not a bad place. Still, similar money can get you a lot more in Lagos or Abuja, so the facilities really need an upgrade. There was no hot water, and the bath faucets are close to giving out. People are willing to pay more for quality. I would be.

For a weekend away, this guesthouse offers good value. It’s in a quiet, tidy, well-organised estate in a prime part of the city, and the food is good without costing much. The staff are friendly too. Parking is limited, though it seems adequate for the number of guests who are usually checked in. It isn’t one of the city’s top hotels, but you get your money’s worth.

The guards aren’t always at the gate, so sometimes you have to knock loudly and hope the receptionist hears you. If nobody is at the desk, you may have to wait until someone comes to let you in. Also, Google Maps sends first-time visitors to the back, where there’s no entrance. Call for directions, or make your way around to the front if you end up there.

I came on someone’s recommendation, but the stay was disappointing. The appliances were in bad shape, especially the air conditioner and fridge. I changed rooms three times and still had problems. The food wasn’t impressive either, and the bath leaked. I left before my stay was over. They urgently need to work on maintenance; this place could be better.
