We went for lunch on Christmas morning with our family of 12. The portions were very small for the menu prices, and the food tasted plain. They charged us a lot for the small amount we got. When we asked for the bills, we were told we could only pay plus taxes and couldn’t get a formal receipt. That seemed fishy and not legal to me, and they said it had to be cash, which also felt odd. I wouldn’t recommend this place.

The yoga deck was amazing, and Popoyo beach was so quiet with hardly anyone around. It was perfect for long walks. I stayed seven nights in a dorm room at Hotel Kraken for a yoga retreat in March 2025. The location gives you wonderful sunrises and sunsets every day. The food was good, though there weren’t many choices. The room was okay, with a bed that felt a little hard.

Right along Popoyo’s long stretch of beach, Kraken Bar is a laid-back place to pause on a walk and get some good food and drinks. I had a lovely salad and a couple of beers with the ocean view. The staff were friendly, and although they didn’t speak English, I got to practise my Spanish. A refreshing break by the shore.

This is a cool, fairly new hotel/hostel right in front of Guasacate beach, with a really nice design. The staff were super friendly and even let me put on some music while I was there. The tostones with meat were amazing, and the jalapeño margaritas were made really well.

The rooms are new, beautiful and very clean, and the staff are amazing. Popoyo surf point is a little far, but there are great waves right in front of the hotel with fewer people. Highly recommend!
