Best Western Las Mercedes Airport

The location is amazing, right across the street from the airport entrance. Inside, there are a pool, gardens, and a big dining room. The front desk staff are nice and make sure you get good customer service. Breakfast was great, with different local food options. Excellent hotel, the best in town. Simply perfect, highly recommended.

Mosquitoes were the reason our one-night stay here was by far the worst of all the places we visited. My partner and I had just spent two nights at Globales Camino Real, three nights at two different places on big corn island, and eight nights at one place on little corn island. Globales Camino Real is three minutes down the road from this place, I think they're owned by the same company. At this BW, after we checked in, turned on the AC, and went to dinner, we came back to seven live mosquitoes on the bed and more flying around. We checked the doors and windows, went out for maybe 30 minutes, and found three more alive on the bed when we returned. They moved us to another room, which was better but still bad. I know nicaragua is buggy because of the weather. We like tropical weather and aren't strangers to heat or the outdoors, and we had no indoor bug problems at the other four places. This was out of control. We put on layers of bug cream at least four times, and they bit our faces, our butts, everywhere. We were shocked this spot came so highly recommended. Service was excellent, especially in the restaurant, and the grounds are gorgeous. But I'm in bed writing this with at least 30 mosquito bites, so I can't recommend it. Globales was great and didn't have this mosquito problem, so I'd go there if you're looking for somewhere near the airport.

The food at the restaurant was delicious, but after serving us, our server disappeared. We got no drink refills or offer of dessert, and had to flag down another employee for the check. The room was clean and the air conditioner worked perfectly. It's easy to walk to the airport, just across the street. There was only one outlet, on the wall opposite the bed, so bring an extension cord. The room Wi-Fi didn't work at all, and worst of all, there was no hot water.

The place feels run down, apart from the lobby and restaurant, though the service was good and the AC worked well. The rooms are really dated, with no outlets near the bed, and the bathroom tiles had issues.
