The garden was full of birds and butterflies, and the setting is close to Madera volcano, the cascada, and plenty of restaurants. We loved staying here. Our room had a view, which costs more but felt worth it if it's in your budget. Everything was very clean, the staff were friendly, and breakfast was affordable. You can rent a scooter through the hotel, and they can arrange a taxi to the ferry for a fair price. By scooter, Playa Mango and Playa El Peru are about 10 minutes away. I'd recommend renting one to explore the island. It's not too expensive, around 20 USD a day, with a discount for longer rentals.

The setting is quiet and surrounded by nature, so insects and spiders may be around. It's an affordable place, and the owner did sort out our booking and move us into the AC room we'd reserved without charging extra. Still, writing this review was hard because we felt some other reviews had given us the wrong impression. We initially got a fan room even though our booking included AC. We were told it was a mistake and asked to pay another $5 per night. That was eventually corrected, but it made for a poor start. The bed was uncomfortable, with springs sticking out of the mattress and very lumpy pillows that really need replacing. The other bed was not too bad yet. There was no hot water, despite reviews suggesting there would be, and WiFi in our room was basically unusable. Even mobile data barely worked indoors. The road in is rough, especially in the dark or when it's wet, so I wouldn't suggest it for someone new to riding a scooter. On our first night, a loud group drank and played music outside until about 10 p.m., and the thin windows didn't block much sound. The owner seemed polite but not especially welcoming. When we arrived at night, he walked away before we could get our bags, and we were left looking for him in the dark. When I later asked about WiFi, he replied, “did you not see it on the back of the door,” which felt dismissive. It's an average stay for now. Better WiFi and new bedding could make it a 4.5-star place. With easier road access and a warmer welcome, it could be five stars. I personally wouldn't hurry back.

The rooms are simple and clean, but there's no AC. The garden is lovely, especially near the breakfast area, and the staff were friendly and helpful. It's a nice retreat from the busy portside town, though about a 45-minute drive inland. There are some good restaurants nearby.

Lucy was really kind and helpful, and the property itself has lovely views and a beautiful garden. The rest of the stay was disappointing, though. I know it's a tropical place, but there were so many bugs in the rooms that we left covered in bites, even on our faces. Also, be ready for frequent power cuts, although I assume that's an island-wide problem.

We spent three nights at El Encanto in the Deluxe room with garden views, and I'm glad we paid for it. Each morning we woke up to an incredible view of Concepción. It was a peaceful place with great coffee, beautiful scenery, and excellent service. Danny was attentive and helped whenever we needed anything. He made our time on the island extra special, and we hope to return someday.
