Los Chocoyos

It's a basic place, but a lovely one if you're after a local experience. The family running it are kind and keen to help you make the most of Ometepe. Things are quiet, there's not much of a tourist crowd, and it's easy to relax, meditate, and enjoy all those mangoes. The food is very good too.

We felt like part of the family here. This is a family run business, and Nestor and Caroline looked after us so warmly. When we arrived Friday afternoon, we got a sweet little cabin facing the lake, with an incredible sunset. We had brought wine, so Nestor arranged a lovely table right by the water. The restaurant is open all day, includes a typical breakfast, and they were flexible about adapting our food to suit our needs. When we decided to add another night, Nestor went out of his way to find us a nice room. We also highly recommend the early kayak trip on the Istian river. We saw loads of wildlife, and Nestor knows so much about it. Definitely support this friendly family.

Nestor took us out kayaking and we saw so many animals, while feeling really well cared for. The sunset paddle boarding with Joel was amazing too. This little family run hostel is on the sunset side of Ometepe, and the hosts are wonderful. I'd recommend both activities for a special experience on the island.

It's a quiet, chilled place with incredible sunset views. You can hire kayaks, and there are traditional breakfasts plus other food available through the day. They can arrange a bike to get around the island. The toilets and room are fairly basic, and it wasn't very social when we visited, but it suited us perfectly.
