Santa Cruz Hostel

We stopped by for a few drinks while staying at an eco lodge, since everywhere else was closed on Wednesday. The staff member who helped us and the rest of the team were phenomenal. They even brought their speaker and personal phone over so we could choose music, though we ended up listening to theirs because it was amazing. When the island brown out happened partway through, they still let us stay and gave us tips for the rest of our visit. For sure, you should visit.

The view is amazing, and the location works really well for exploring the island. It's also within walking distance of Wet Wednesdays Pool Party and local restaurants. The family who runs this hostal are really nice and helpful. I had a few things washed, and my jean shorts came back cleaner than I'd imagined. They were washed in cold water and line dried, just what I wanted so they wouldn't shrink. If you need budget accommodation in the area, I highly recommend staying here. We only wish we'd had more time to extend our stay. The tasty, cheap breakfast, super clean rooms, and beautiful hillside views of the volcano made us love this family owned and operated hostel. Everyone was incredibly helpful and lovely. Santa Cruz is also a really central base for many of the island's wonders. We'd definitely stay again.

Room nr 1 was dirty, damp, musty, and crawling with spiders, including lots of big fat ones. There were huge cracks in the walls, badly covered with tape and stuffed with toilet paper, plus disgusting stains of who knows what. The fan was caked in dust, and more tape was holding up the ceiling panels. The bathroom was filthy and had even more spiders. Outside, a big rat was looming over us from the roof beams. If every room is this bad, the place isn't fit for people. What a dump.
