The staff were friendly, and the rooms were large and tidy. From the front of the hotel there's a great view, once you look past the busy road between the hotel and river. Breakfast was the same every day, which is fine for a night or two, but got repetitive over five days. The room information was wrong too: I scanned the QR code for a games room and pool table, but apparently those aren't there. It was the wrong code, meant for a different hotel. Parking is extortionate if you hire a car, around €5 per hour on average. It's free outside the hotel from 2000-0900, but daytime parking is expensive, as I found is common across the Netherlands. The hotel also charges €20 per night for its car park. I'd recommend using public transport and hiring bikes instead. The cycle paths are huge and everyone has to give way to cycles. I'd definitely come back, just without a car. Alkmaar is beautiful.

The town center and train station are both about a 10-minute walk away. I was welcomed warmly at reception, and my room was lovely and spacious, as well as clean and tidy.

The location was good, but traffic made it noisy. With no air conditioning, we had to leave the window open to sleep, and that made it hard to get any rest. Just a heads-up for warm weather: not every room has AC, and that can really affect your comfort. We were there as a couple for two nights and had booked a single bed by mistake. When we asked to switch rooms, reception said the hotel was fully booked, though it seemed quite empty during our stay. The room felt very basic for over €300. The fridge didn’t work, the curtains let in the morning sun, and there was no AC or even a fan, despite temperatures of 25-30° and the room facing the sun all day.

The service was exceptional, and the room was clean and comfortable in a beautiful town. It got a little warm in my room because there was no air conditioning. A heads-up for travelers from the US, where AC is more common.
