High5

The hotel was terrible. Way too noisy.

We tried coming by on Monday and Tuesday, when the place was supposed to be open, but even though the door was open, we couldn’t get in. We came back Wednesday for a Wonderbox gift-card deal confirmed at High 5, with wine and snacks. The wine was okay, but the value was poor: the deal cost €23 and included just three cheese croquettes and three cheese sticks. A bottle of that wine normally costs the consumer 5.95. We added shrimp and nachos. The shrimp were okay, though a little burnt on one side. The cheese nachos were very mediocre, with young, tasteless melted cheese, a sliced jalapeño and three small dipping sauces. A shame. All in all, I definitely wouldn’t recommend it.

We’d had a really good first visit, with good service, delicious food and good wines, so last week we booked by phone for a high wine yesterday. My party and I ended up standing outside for nothing: the place was closed, and nobody knew about our reservation. Such a letdown. Luckily, we found somewhere else and had a lovely meal and drinks there.

After three hours, we’d reached only the fifth small course, so we decided to leave dessert and get up. One of the staff came over after we’d put on our coats and asked, “No dessert wanted?” My father said we were finished, and that having a nice Christmas Eve dinner with friends or family was fine, but sitting beside them as guests had left us feeling ignored and incredibly uncomfortable. The young woman seemed surprised and said “okay.” There was no apology. They just cleared the table and went back to their group. We’d booked a cozy six-course family dinner through Socialdeal for Christmas Eve. The service started off a bit clumsy, but that was fine and even had a certain charm. The courses were very small, with quite a lot of time between them. Later, more guests arrived, apparently friends or family of the staff. The staff clearly wanted to join them: they sat at two tables behind us with glasses of wine, taking turns. Between visits to their group, they served us another course, then quickly went back. After our fifth course, both staff members sat down with their group and began eating, each with a large glass of wine. Oh, and one of them had received a beautiful necklace. It looked very elegant on her, as she herself said after going to check it in the mirror in the middle of the restaurant.
