Breakfast and the location are both very good, though at 25 per person they should be. The rest doesn't make the hotel worth recommending. It's very old and seems to have had little, if any, updating, which leaves the hygiene questionable. The value-for-money rating is way off.

The beds were comfortable, the linen clean, and breakfast had a good range of food. There were plenty of toiletries, too, and the hotel felt like good value for the money. Kenneth was welcoming and helpful at the night check-in desk, and Joel was friendly and smiling at the bar. It's handy for a short stay near the city, though the halls and rooms show wear. The bathrooms could use repairs and a fresh coat of paint.

We were shocked by the state of the hotel, as were other guests we spoke with, and couldn't understand its 4-star rating. Used condoms were left in several areas outside the rooms and on the property, which felt deeply uncomfortable. Inside, the hallway smelled strongly of sewage every evening, and we could smell it in our room too. The bathroom had yellow and black stains. I raised this twice, and both times staff said housekeeping would handle it, but nothing was cleaned and the stains remained. Our room was unbearably cold at night. When we complained, we were told the hotel was old, which didn't make those conditions acceptable. We reported all of this on our first night, yet nothing changed for the rest of our stay. Later they offered a 15% discount on a future stay and said it would be better next time. After this experience, returning is completely out of the question. This was one of the worst hotel stays I've had. There was poor hygiene, bad service, no real effort to solve the problems, and no accountability. I wouldn't recommend it.

The service was fine, but the room alone had at least five broken pieces of furniture or facilities. The place seems to be getting little investment, and things are falling apart. This hotel has clearly seen better days, and it isn't a 4-star property. The price doesn't match the quality.

The room itself was spacious, with a large TV you can cast your phone apps to, a strong shower, free toiletries, effective air conditioning, and a nice view out the back from Room 401. The staff were fantastic, friendly, and approachable. I had an issue with my expectations soon after check-in, but a quick email got it sorted the next day. Apart from that, I had a great stay and would recommend it if you're looking for a twin room. The beds were my main disappointment. As far as I could tell, there aren't proper double beds, just two singles pushed together. In Room 401 there was a double duvet and mattress topper over the two separate beds, but if you sleep in the middle they can part and you start to sink into the gap. The topper slows that down, LOL, but it can slide around too, making you feel like you're slipping off the edge. It would be better if the toppers were secured. When a room is described as having either two singles or a double, it's left to the hotel's idea of a double, which is pretty different from mine. If I bought a double mattress, I wouldn't expect to get two singles. Maybe the setup discourages bedroom activity, since the bases separate when there's action in the middle. Check-in was slow and labored. Kenneth couldn't be bothered to split the tourist tax four ways for our group booking, so we all had to pay together. He talked too much and struggled to book four people into two rooms. I also don't think it's a good idea to tell guests on arrival that the hotel was once used as a processing centre for Jewish people during World War 2 before sending them to the nearby concentration camp. It's a short 15-minute downhill walk to the train station, but taxis or Uber often aren't available to take you back up the hill. If you're carrying bags, wait for the bus.
