Mercure City Amersfoort Centre Hotel

The hotel is perfectly placed for exploring the old city of Amersfoort, and there’s a bus stop outside for rides to the station. Our room was attractive and comfortable, with a spacious bathroom and a great shower. The only letdown was the slightly old TV, which didn’t have apps like Netflix. Breakfast had plenty of choice, including freshly made eggs. Highly recommended.

The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the breakfast area was spacious. The coffee machines were somehow outside it, though, so you have to ask where they are. You can request an iron and ironing board, but need to pick them up from reception yourself. When I arrived, the receptionist was on a call, which is fine, but ignored me without even indicating she’d seen me and would help soon. That wasn’t good service, so I’ve lowered my score.

The location is perfect, about an 8 minute walk from Amersfoort central train station. The main problem was housekeeping. They changed the towels and took the rubbish bag, but didn’t really clean: the floor wasn’t done, the bed sheets weren’t changed, and there were no fresh trash bags. We were also told we’d get a room with a jacuzzi or at least a bathtub, but neither was provided. Breakfast was decent, but not worth the price.

Amersfoort is beautiful, and the hotel is very close to the inner old city. It’s a lovely place, with great service and rooms at a good price if you find a good deal. My only complaint is that I was told my credit card would only be used as a backup in case we broke something. In the end, they charged the full price to it without asking. I was fine with the charge, but that wasn’t what we’d been told.
