The Mansion

The location is handy, and the service staff were lovely, friendly, and polite. We had the large four-bed basement, which was quiet unless people were in the communal area. Our group was, so it was very loud and I was sleepy most days. It was clean enough, I guess. The staircase is super steep, so watch out. We had 10 people sharing “The Mansion” for six days. It’s the door on the LEFT of these owned apartments, which belong to the same person. The electronic key cards were a complete nightmare. The owner wouldn’t give us more than four, and with 10 people making different plans, sharing them caused friction and arguments. It was extremely aggravating and sometimes infuriating. One day, someone couldn’t leave for hours because all the keys were out with people who were coming back. A keypad with a code that could be changed for each booking would solve this easily and let everyone come and go. I hope the owner reads this, because it should have been obvious it would be a problem with a full house. The showers had a strong, eggy, gassy smell that filled the toilet area. We had to put a towel under the door to stop it spreading. The shower water built up because it wouldn’t drain, and the sink in my room took about 30 minutes to drain, with contents backing up into it. Vile. I wasn’t the person who booked, but I’d have liked to review it on b. Com, where it’s rated, because I think the rating needs to come down a peg or two. I used the same towel for all six days. We couldn’t work out how to get fresh ones, even though we saw service staff arrive with lots of towels. Leaving ours on the floor didn’t get them exchanged, which was odd. The beds were shocking, like jelly, with no support at all. Maybe they’re okay if you’re utterly exhausted and don’t notice what you’re sleeping on, but six days on those squishy mattresses was enough suffering for me. The communal area isn’t really a kitchen. There’s no way to cook in a pan, just a kettle, coffee machine, and sink. So, live on cup noodles, I guess. There’s also a fridge in SOMEONE’S ROOM across the hall. Yup, really. The place is laid out in a very strange way. The TV in most rooms didn’t work because there was no signal. The communal one did. There were no UK channels or instructions for setting up the TVs. My TV didn’t work either. Several light switches in our room were broken, and only one of four very large bulbs worked. We also had to unscrew a huge hanging bulb because it was at arm height and directly in the way of the door. We kept bumping it and could see it getting smashed within minutes, so we put it safely away. I’m glad I never have to deal with this place again. My own home is laid out the right way, and my mattress is unbeatable, haha.

Months after we booked, the owner cancelled our reservation with less than 24 hours’ notice and gave no reason. That was unacceptable. We had to scramble to find a place that could fit two families. The alternative was much farther away and only so-so for accommodations. It really ruined our trip.

It’s a nice house, but they charged us 50€ for a TV remote we didn’t even use, saying that we had damaged it.

There was enough space for sleeping and sitting together, and the stairs were a little steep.
