Hotel Mare Sanat

The beach is perfectly close, and the employees were really friendly. It's a welcoming hotel with cozy, clean rooms.

I absolutely can't recommend Mare Sanat Hotel in Wijk aan Zee. I wanted to arrange a charming place as a birthday treat for my mother, and after looking at the photos and fairly good reviews, I emailed about booking. The woman replied to my first message. In the next one I asked just three things: whether they speak German, if there is parking, and whether bikes can be rented. The answer was, “you should look for accommodation in any other hotel.” I thought perhaps it wasn't meant maliciously and wrote back that it looked cozy and I wanted to spend my Mum's birthday there. My brother, who lives in Wijk aan Zee, went to see the rooms. The owner was annoyed, saying there was “too much discussion, questions !!! we said - go to another hotel !!!”. Right after my brother left, I received an email saying they couldn't accept my reservation and asking me to find another hotel. I've never encountered such impudence. If you don't want to be treated terribly and feel bad, stay away from Mare Sanat Hotel.

I'd seen the hotel before and the rooms looked lovely, but I wouldn't book after the way my cancellation was handled. I had to cancel with over six weeks' notice because of unforeseen, unfortunate circumstances. When I asked about the policy while booking, I was told cancellation was free with 14 days' notice. The reply to my cancellation email was just two lines, incredibly rude and sarcastic. I had to reread it because I couldn't believe it. I wrote back to suggest they change the policy if they were going to send messages like that, and apologized again for cancelling so far in advance. I might need a hotel for a group in Wijk aan Zee in the future, but I'll look elsewhere now. That's a shame. Customer service really needs to improve.

I was really looking forward to visiting friends in Wijk Aan Zee for New Year's, but had to cancel because I might have covid. Two days later, the owners sent me an extremely rude and petty email. I had hoped to still come and stay if I tested negative, but after that experience I'll avoid the place and tell everyone I know to do the same.
