Strandhotel

The building looks majestic above the dunes, and inside it has a cool, contemporary beach house feel. The receptionist was very warm and recommended an amazing restaurant where we had dinner. That first impression met our expectations. Thanks! I think Strandhotel Cadzand aims for a high level of hospitality, so I judged it by that standard. It was good, but could have been exceptional. Our room felt like a spare room given to a walk-in guest at a hotel that was 99% full, though that wasn’t the case. We booked a sea view, which was beautiful, but the main building partly got in the way on the right. There was plenty of choice at breakfast, but not much attention to service. Nobody cleared empty plates or noticed when the coffee machines ran out of milk. At a high end hotel, I’d expect those small things to be handled. Instead there was a robot, and the coffee makers had iPad-sized screens. Maybe I’m just getting old. The hotel could be a real gem if the outside matched the inside. I love the region, so I’d probably give it another try soon. Maybe I should lower my expectations, or maybe they’ll improve the service.

The rooms were comfortable and had beautiful views, and the spa was clean and relaxing. The sauna felt a little too small. Breakfast had excellent quality and a good range. Some parts of the hotel seemed empty, the staff didn’t seem very friendly, and the bar and restaurant were almost always closed. Still, it’s a solid place for a relaxing break.

I booked a special welcome of flowers and champagne for my wife’s birthday and paid in advance, but when we got to the room there was nothing there. It felt like an ordinary room, not a birthday stay. Reception checked and confirmed they had the request and payment, but had simply forgotten to arrange it. We lost time at the desk, and the start of the stay was spoiled. They offered a refund and hollow apologies, but wouldn’t even provide the champagne we’d already paid for as a goodwill gesture. I was really disappointed by the lack of responsibility or effort to put things right. The room also felt poor value for the high price. The bathroom looked stark and rushed, as if the painter had skipped the final touch-ups. The wall finish was badly done, and parts of the toilet walls looked unfinished with patches of missing paint. At more than €200 per night, this was nowhere near the quality I expected or the hotel advertised. Strandhotel Cadzand fell short on service, appearance, and handling its mistake. I wouldn’t recommend it if you want a polished stay or a hotel that cares about special occasions.

Breakfast was mostly pastries and other sweet things, not a full buffet with much variety. For what we paid, the service felt lacking too. It seems you’re mainly paying for the location.
