Van Der Valk Hotel Cuijk - Nijmegen

The breakfast felt very overpriced for its quality, at almost EUR20. I stayed one night, and breakfast wasn’t included. When I asked reception the next morning if I could eat and pay at checkout, they bluntly said no and insisted I pay upfront. That approach made me feel as if they thought I might leave without paying or checking out. I paid reluctantly, then asked for an invoice and was told I could only get one at checkout. 😀😀😀 It was a perfect example of zero customer centricity. I quickly realized that customer centricity isn’t part of their strategy.

Inside, the hotel is much nicer than its somewhat dated exterior. The rooms are spacious and clean, and the bathrooms are very nice. I was a little disappointed there’s no swimming pool, and dinner was okay, but didn’t taste as good as it usually does at Van der Valk.

The staff were very polite, and breakfast was absolutely delicious. My room was warm and fairly quiet during the New Year’s fireworks, since the hotel is a bit away from the busy city center. It was clean, with a private bathroom and a nice bath to relax in. I stayed here one year ago during New Year’s. Unfortunately, someone had smoked in the room before my stay. That bothered me, though the smell went away after a while and once I aired it out. Otherwise, it was a great experience.

It’s a quiet setting, and I’d recommend the hotel for a stay. The staff were friendly from Reception through to the restaurant, and the food was good. I especially liked the chicken skewer and porkschnitzel with french fries, mayonaise, and apple sauce. The food prices weren’t too expensive.
