Fletcher Hotel-Restaurant De Eese-Giethoorn

The area is lovely, with lots of beautiful national parks nearby for hiking. The hotel itself, though, was a letdown. We booked specifically for a wellness retreat and only found out the pool and sauna would be closed 10 hours beforehand, after we happened to call with another question. By then it was too late to find somewhere else. We asked the staff, who were very nice, about compensation, but the manager never got back to us. Our room was poor for the price, with bare, dirty walls, an old dirty carpet, and a bathroom that smelled of sewage. We expected something nicer. The restaurant was a nightmare too. Most of what we were served seemed frozen rather than freshly cooked, the salad hadn't been washed or dressed, the meat was badly overcooked and dry, and parts of the burger buns were missing, yet still served as if everything were normal. Prices weren't cheap either. We both got stomach aches after the previous day's lunch. I can't recommend this hotel. Stay away.

The toilet had been renovated, and they did bring the gluten-free bread and soy milk we asked for. The rest was disappointing. The photos speak for themselves, but my 9-year-old son called it a dark place, and he was right: there isn't much lighting. We were also the youngest people there, so it felt like a residence for older people. Even when staff gave us what we'd requested, they did it with bad energy. The pool and sauna were closed. They gave us a fan because there was no air conditioning. Breakfast was very basic, with a really small table. The scrambled eggs were plastic-like, though they did have boiled eggs. The woman at the front desk had a shirt that was nearly torn and looked white-grey. Don't come here.

It's midnight and I'm terrified. There are insects everywhere, mosquitoes keep buzzing around the room, and I can't sleep. I can also hear the person in the next room snoring loudly, even though they're sleeping deeply. I don't understand how this hotel gets such good reviews. Really bad place. I do not recommend it at all.

We had such a relaxed stay here, with beautiful views from the rooms. On our third visit, we got a bigger room than usual, with an extra sofa facing the TV. It's a nice place to get away from the city. The girl at reception was really pleasant and respectful.
