We had a great weekend in beautiful Delden. The food was outstanding, and so was the service.

The heating in our room didn’t work, and it was freezing. We got back after 11 and found nobody at reception, so we slept in the cold and all came down with a bad flu. When we complained, they said there was nothing they could do. On the day we left, we asked for just 10 extra minutes to pack because we felt so unwell, but they wouldn’t give us even one. We had to be out by 11, and any extra minute would cost more. We’d stayed overnight and paid €200. The room was called a double, but it had two single beds and two single duvets. I travel a lot and have stayed in hotels all over the world, but this was the worst place and worst customer service I’ve come across. I’d never recommend it.

Breakfast was excellent, and the hotel itself had plenty of charm and a good location. But my family had a very different experience with the staff. I booked two rooms for my in-laws and an aunt, and at reception they were treated rudely, almost as if they might not pay. The same thing happened the next morning when they asked to be seated for breakfast. It left them feeling that the hotel needed their money immediately, which made for an unpleasant atmosphere. One room also smelled awful, like there was a dead fish in the closet. My in-laws put up with it, though I would have asked to switch rooms. If rude staff and a possibly smelly room won’t bother you, go ahead and book.
