Hotel Lands End

I was heading to Texel with a terrible headache when the receptionist kindly gave me paracetamol. You saved my birthday and my day. Thank you!

The hotel seems to have gone downhill since I last stayed a couple of years ago. It feels worn out, with no sign of renovation for quite some time. It’s sad to see the quality slip, especially when demand in Den Helder is high. That shouldn’t mean the place can be left without updates. Breakfast was the biggest letdown. The included meal is in a separate room facing the ferry terminal. The sea-view restaurant area is reserved for paid à la carte items, such as a croissant or a proper cappuccino. What’s included is very limited: two small trays, one of cheese and one of cold cuts, with no vegetables. The hot choices weren’t much better, and the scrambled eggs were wet and unappealing. It was okay, but nothing special.

The breakfast seemed sparse at first glance, but there was a decent amount to choose from. I stayed one night on Thu 8th May 2025 because I needed to catch the early ferry to Texel Friday morning. The hotel has a lovely interior and great sea views. A superb stay.

Breakfast was great, with plenty of food to choose from, and the woman working Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday was really nice and knew her job. My room was clean and well kept, including the bathroom, and had a great view of the sea and Texel. There were a few small patches where the paint had come off the wall, but they barely showed. The TV remote was a bit unreliable, though the staff did their best to fix it. I had a great time.
