Hotel Abdij Dokkum

You can keep bicycles, including e-bikes, in the hotel courtyard, and private parking is available if you ask. The building and rooms have a historic feel, right in central Dokkum. Breakfast was excellent, and the staff were friendly. The restaurant also does shared dining, with several dishes to share.

The location is perfect, and I’m already planning to come back soon. I was impressed by the accommodation, and the room was spotless. Breakfast was more than acceptable, though dinner is the real reason to eat here. The menu and its execution felt sophisticated, and I want to find out who’s behind it on my next visit. The team clearly puts customer satisfaction first, anticipating what you need even before arrival and thinking creatively to help. Every staff member I met was excellent. The Italian-born sommelier is passionate about the hotel and “his” wines, and I’d trust his judgment completely. Even the booking confirmation gave me a feeling I’d like this place.

We were in de Abdij for a mini-holiday exploring this part of The Netherlands. Its spot in the middle of town, on the square by the frozen fountain, is great, and the wifi worked well. The staff were exceptionally friendly and accommodating, well above average for this part of the world, and willing to think along and find solutions. The hotel feels new and luxurious while still having character. Our comfortable room was furnished with care and quality materials. There were toys for the kids, and their towels had been folded into an elephant. I’d certainly recommend staying here.

The town is charming and friendly, and the hotel is in a beautifully renovated building. Lisa deserves a special thanks for making our stay feel extra special with such attention to detail and effort beyond what we expected. The staff were wonderful, and the whole stay exceeded our expectations. We’ll definitely return.
