We loved how quiet and charming the place was, and the setting made it easy to explore the area. The Uranus hiking trail is well worth doing. The house is roomy and laid out well for six, but it has a lot of maintenance and cleaning issues that held our stay back. The kitchen just about works. There are two induction frying pans, but the non-stick coating is damaged on both, and one is so warped it seems to have been used on a gas stove before. The fridge is tiny, though there’s a large freezer, and the only coffee maker is for filter coffee. The dishwasher works. Many of the cups and glasses had chipped pieces, and one of us cut his lip on one. When we mentioned it, the response felt very casual. The bedrooms and bathrooms need finishing: exposed tile edges, a loose toilet plate, water pipes running diagonally across a wall, broken insect screens, and a hallway light that wouldn’t turn off. Cleaning was another problem. It looked like nobody had cleaned under or behind the beds and sofas, and there was a lot of dust. That was especially unfortunate with a child who has asthma. It could have been five stars if the owners had been more approachable and made more of an effort. We had a lovely stay, but the shortcomings bring it down to three.
